The Hands-on Class at Marugame Seimen is an activity that is aimed mainly at allowing children to experience making noodles. It also serves as an opportunity to let them learn important matters, such as the preciousness of food and gratitude for their parents, not to mention the pleasure of cooking and eating food.
We launched this initiative in 2012. As of March 31, 2019, a total of 33,566 children have participated in this class.
The Hie-Maru Tan Tan Udon, a hot-selling menu item at Marugame Seimen, was developed by children from Yokohama Municipal Hie Elementary School.
The children began to make Udon with Partner Staff about two years ago. Their desire to “develop a menu item on our own in the end” took shape.
We held the Idea Competition for high school students, who presented highly creative menu items. Participants gave comments such as “It deepened my interest in food further.”
We will continue to support the development and active participation of young people, to contribute to the development of food culture.
Marugame Seimen started operating a kitchen car in 2019. The kitchen car is equipped with a noodle cutting machine and boiler, making it identical to a mobile store. We can now offer "fresh udon" anywhere in Japan, making the brand concept of “freshly hand-made at every store" into a reality. Currently, we are mainly engaged in holding udon making classes at the request of local governments, schools, and local governments, but we plan to expand the scope of our activities in the future, such as supporting reconstruction in disaster stricken areas.
